Learning to Model Respect

In my last message to you entitled “Happy New Year – with a Challenge,” I proposed that we all continue to work toward assuring that as members of the Health Center community we respect and learn from each other, value and encourage teamwork, and eliminate old concepts and prejudices. In support of creating and maintaining an organizational culture aligned with this mindset, and in support of our diversity strategy to create an inclusive environment, we have a new training program entitled “Managing a Harassment-Free and Respectful Workplace.” This program was designed by an outside company with over 30 years of experience in organizational development. We have invested in this program and have four certified trainers in the HR/Organization and Staff Development Department.

It is imperative that our leaders embrace this new mindset and learn how to model and influence an inclusive environment. Therefore, I am requiring that all managerial staff including academic staff members who supervise employee and/or students, attend the training session entitled “Managing a Harassment-Free and Respectful Workplace.” Information regarding training dates will be forthcoming from Human Resources. We will be closely monitoring the progress of this training as it is very important to making 2007 a year of respect and inclusion.
