Interim Associate Dean for Community and Continuing Education
We are pleased to announce that Leighton Huey, M.D., who served for nearly 12 years as Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, has agreed to serve as Interim Associate Dean for Community and Continuing Medical Education. This important position has been vacant since the untimely death of Charles Huntington in late 2009.
Dr. Huey joined the Health Center in 1998 from Dartmouth Medical School, in Hanover, New Hampshire, where he was vice chairman, professor and medical director of the Department of Psychiatry. He has also served as medical director of Scripps Memorial Hospitalís Mental Health Center in La Jolla, California, as well as professor of psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Huey is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the Albany Medical College of Union University and trained at the University of California, San Diego. He has lectured extensively on the challenges of providing appropriate mental health services in a changing health care environment, as well as the interface between psychiatry and primary care services. He has published numerous scholarly articles on issues such as depression, anxiety, attention deficit disorder in adults, post-traumatic stress disorder, and alcoholism and addiction.
