Associate Dean for Community and Continuing Education
Following an extensive search, Leighton Huey, M.D., has been selected as the new Associate Dean for Community and Continuing Education.
Dr. Huey has been with the UConn Health Center for nearly 13 years, serving as the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and most recently, as the Interim Associate Dean for Community and Continuing Education.
In his new role, Dr. Huey will continue to focus on addressing the educational needs of physicians and other clinicians both within the UConn Health Center and throughout the state by sponsoring, reviewing, and approving timely educational programs. He is working to change the nature of Continuing Medical Education, linking it to quality improvement and faculty development, to make it consistent with new standards and expectations at the national level that relate to maintenance of licensure and certification. He has also developed a twice-yearly System Redesign Series which launches this May with the intent being to generate discussion about health care reform and how that impacts our system. In addition, Dr. Huey will be establishing educational programs in the community for the people of Hartford to promote and improve health literacy. He will continue to serve as a psychiatry attending, teaching medical students and residents.
Please join me in extending congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Huey.
Sincerely,
Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D.
Vice President for Health Affairs
Dean, UConn School of Medicine
