Join Coach Calhoun in the Fight Against Cancer
On Saturday, June 11, our great friends Pat and Jim Calhoun will once again lead hundreds of bicyclists, runners and walkers – including many people from the UConn Health Center community – in the annual NBC Connecticut Jim Calhoun Cancer Challenge Ride and Walk.
As always, proceeds will support clinical research at our own Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center and Coaches vs. Cancer, a program of the American Cancer Society. The event will begin and end at the Simsbury Performing Arts Center.
I encourage everyone to join me in supporting this spectacular event that has raised $720,000 in the fight against cancer since its inception.
There are many ways you can join Coach Calhoun’s team. You can participate as a rider, walker or runner. You can also provide a pledge of any level to support a friend or colleague who is participating. And you can also consider volunteering throughout this fun-filled day that will include live music, fresh food and more.
To learn more, please visit: http://calhounride.uchc.edu/. Also, be sure to watch Broadcast Messages and the Health Center Today news page to learn more about the many ways the Health Center will support this event.
I am also especially proud to note that our Department of Dermatology, led by Chair Jane Grant-Kels, M.D., will be offering free skin cancer screenings on the day of the Calhoun Challenge Ride and Walk. This is a wonderful service to the community.
Thanks for your consideration of this worthy event!
Sincerely,
Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D.
