Dedication of Cell and Genome Sciences Building

Yesterday afternoon, the UConn Health Center marked an important milestone as Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Interim University President Philip Austin, Congressman Chris Murphy and other state leaders officially dedicated the new Cell and Genome Sciences Building and welcomed in a new era of scientific discovery and job creation.

With the addition of the Cell and Genome Sciences Building, the UConn Health Center now has a total of nearly 1 million gross square feet dedicated to research. The building brings together elite researchers and innovators in a modern, open environment designed to foster multidisciplinary collaboration and cooperation.

The building is home to the Department of Genetics and Developmental Biology; the UConn Stem Cell Institute; the world-renowned Richard D. Berlin Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling; and incubator space for emerging bioscience industries, together with the University’s Office of Technology Commercialization.

Thanks to generous state support, work in the building has already led to successful discoveries, job creation through the high utilization rate of the incubator space, and several philanthropic gifts specifically designated to support the work of talented researchers in the building.

In all, the Cell and Genome Sciences Building is an incredibly valuable addition to our integrated academic medical center. Please join me in thanking all whose hard work and vision made this enormous achievement a reality.

Sincerely,

Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D.
Vice President for Health Affairs
