Important Compliance Education
Universities and academic medical centers are governed by state and federal law, the regulations of funding agencies, the rules of accrediting bodies and, sometimes, rules imposed by other external entities. To help guide us through these requirements, the University’s Board of Trustees has directed us to take steps to ensure that all employees are familiar with the laws under which we must operate and how these standards translate into our day-to-day responsibilities.
Education is crucial to understanding and maintaining compliance with the complex regulations that govern all aspects of our institution. The Board of Trustees requires that all employees complete annual compliance training and expects that, as an institution, we achieve a minimum goal of 95% completion.
As UConn Health Center Interim Vice President for Health Affairs, I am committed to ensuring that all Health Center staff members are educated about our Code of Conduct, State Code of Ethics and other pertinent compliance topics. To this end, I expect that all members of the Health Center community will complete mandatory compliance training by the December 31, 2011, deadline established by the UConn Health Center Executive Compliance Committee.
President Herbst, the Board of Trustees and I will be receiving regular updates on our progress with training completion. Every member of the Health Center community plays a role in making sure that the Health Center fulfills this obligation and I anticipate that each of you will do your part to complete all required education.
If you have already completed your compliance training I thank you for your effort.
Philip E. Austin
Interim Vice President for Health Affairs
