New Associate Dean of the Graduate School
We are pleased to announce that Barbara E. Kream, Ph.D., Professor of Medicine and Genetics and Developmental Biology and Director of the M.D/Ph.D. program, will become the new Associate Dean of the Graduate School, effective February 1, 2011.
Dr. Kream was selected by an internal search committee. She will succeed Lawrence A. Klobutcher, Ph.D., who led the graduate school from 2007 and to whom we remain grateful for his service and dedication.
Dr. Kream has spent most of her professional career at the UConn Health Center, having joined during her post-doctorate training under the mentorship of the late Lawrence Raisz, M.D. She obtained a faculty appointment and rose through the ranks to become Professor of Medicine and Genetics and Developmental Biology; she also holds a joint appointment as Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Kream’s major research focus is on the hormonal regulation of bone formation.
In addition, she has remained active with student training and mentoring and is a long-standing member of the Biomedical Science and Dental Science Graduate faculty. She will retain her current position as Director of the M.D/Ph.D. program until October 2011, unless a replacement is identified sooner.
Please join us in extending our best wishes to Dr. Kream in her new leadership role.
Sincerely,
Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D.
Vice President for Health Affairs
