Please Join Me in Welcoming New Basic Science Faculty

In a continuing look at new additions to our faculty, I am pleased to announce that three highly accomplished scientists have recently joined the UConn Health Center. Their credentials are impressive and diverse – and we look forward to their contributions in many areas throughout the Health Center.

Irina Bezsonova, M.S., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular, Microbial and Structural Biology . Dr. Bezsonova comes to us from Toronto. She completed her Ph.D. studies in chemistry at the University of Toronto, and most recently has been a postdoctoral fellow at its Structural Genomics Consortium.

Dmitry Korzhnev, M.S., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular, Microbial and Structural Biology. Dr. Korzhnev also joins us from the University of Toronto, where he spent the last decade as a postdoctoral fellow in the Departments of Molecular Genetics, Biology and Chemistry. His Ph.D. is in biophysics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

Yi I. Wu, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Genetics and Developmental Biology in the Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling. Dr. Wu joins us from the University of North Carolina, where he completed his postdoctoral training in pharmacology in the lab of Klaus M. Hahn, Ph.D., before becoming a research assistant professor in Dr. Hahn’s lab. His Ph.D. is in cancer biology from Northwestern University.

Please join me in welcoming Drs. Bezsonova, Korzhnev and Wu.

Sincerely,

Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D.
