Messages from the Executive Vice President

James E. C. Walker, M.D.
One of the founding fathers of the UConn Health Center, and a member of our first faculty, Dr. James E. C. Walker passed away late last week. Dr. Walker was a man ahead of his time, whose dedication to public service and medical humanities clearly helped to shape the direction of the UConn School of Medicine. Of note, he was the first director of the Department of Community Medicine and Health Care and played a seminal role in the development of its medical humanities and international health programs. He also served as associate director of the UConn Center on Aging. In honor of his service, the highly acclaimed Memory Disorders Program is named for him.
A complete copy of his obituary is attached. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and his many friends, colleagues and mentees here at the Health Center. May our work today and in the years ahead continue to honor his legacy.
Sincerely,
Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D.
Vice President for Health Affairs
Dean, UConn School of Medicine
