Bioscience Connecticut Groundbreaking Is June 11
It is my distinct honor to announce that Governor Dannel P. Malloy, together with University President Susan Herbst and legislative leaders, will participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for Bioscience Connecticut on Monday, June 11, at the Health Center.
The groundbreaking will take place at 5 p.m. adjacent to the first construction project, in the I-parking lot, near the main hospital entrance. All faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend and celebrate this important milestone in the history of the Health Center.
As you know, it was just a year ago that Governor Malloy came to the Health Center to introduce Bioscience Connecticut.
Over the next few years, the Health Center campus will be transformed to meet the region’s health care needs, spark new medical innovations and create lasting economic growth. Bioscience Connecticut includes the construction of a new hospital tower, parking structures and a new Ambulatory Care Center. Other construction elements include renovations to the original research tower and hospital, as well as expanded educational facilities to accommodate growth in the medical and dental schools, and additional small business incubator space. The plan also calls for programmatic initiatives including a range of community-based health improvement programs.
As a result of Bioscience Connecticut, we will begin a new collaboration with the Jackson Laboratory. The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine will be constructed and housed on the Health Center campus and will partner our scientists and physicians, as well as those from other Connecticut medical centers and hospitals, to pioneer new advances in personalized medicine.
