Messages from the Executive Vice President

A Message from Phil Austin

Today marks the beginning of an exciting new era for the UConn Health Center as Dr. Frank Torti formally assumes his responsibilities as Executive Vice President of Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine. Dr. Torti has engaged me and many others in the transition and is, without question, prepared to begin his work. The Health Center is in very good hands.

I am exceptionally grateful for all the support I have received from members of the Board of Directors, the faculty and staff during my tenure as Interim Vice President of Health Affairs. In particular, I want to thank the Senior Administrative Team that not only kept us moving and growing, but also led the planning and implementation of massive new academic and construction initiatives. I now ask that you to provide the same level of support to Dr. Torti. Please do all you can to help him lead and build upon the Health Centerís many strengths and opportunities.

Bioscience Connecticut and our partnership with Jackson Labs have brightened the Health Centerís future in ways that were unthinkable in the not too distant past. Frankís leadership will extend this enthusiasm even further. In my view, there has never been a time when the Health Center has had so much positive momentum.

I leave this assignment confident in Frankís leadership and knowing the Health Center will thrive in the years ahead. Best wishes to you all.

Philip E. Austin
