2012 State of Connecticut Affirmative Action Plan
The University of Connecticut Health Center’s (UCHC) 2012 State of Connecticut Affirmative Action Plan was approved by the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities. During this meeting, the Commissioners complimented the Health Center on the positive steps we have taken to improve our Affirmative Action Program.
The Office of Diversity and Equity (ODE) invites all employees to review the UCHC’s Affirmative Action Plan which includes the below policies, hiring/promotional goals, and program goals:
- Affirmative Action, Non-Discrimination, and Equal Opportunity Policy
- Persons with Disabilities
- HIV/AIDS Non-Discrimination
- Prohibition of Sexual Harassment
The above mentioned policies will be distributed to all employees through the Office of Diversity and Equity’s web page http://diversity.uchc.edu/affirmaction/affirmact_plan.html, and posted on bulletin boards throughout the Health Center.
Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, and other supervisory employees are asked to ensure that the policies above are posted in their respective units in locations highly visible to employees, students, and the general public. New employees will receive copies of the policy statements in the package of information they receive on their first day of employment, as part of the New Employee Orientation Program.
Affirmative Action Plan
The Affirmative Action Plan is located in the ODE Office at 16 Munson Road, 4th floor in Farmington and it is located on our website at http://diversity.uchc.edu/affirmaction/affirmact_plan.html. It will be available for all employees to review and make written comments until June 30, 2013. Any comments or concerns can be directed to Carolle Andrews, Chief Administrative Officer and Interim Affirmative Action Officer at 860-679-4109.
Hiring and Promotional Goals
The hiring and promotional goals are located on the ODE’s web page http://diversity.uchc.edu/affirmaction/hiringgoals.html, and they are updated throughout the year.
The following program goals were established in the Affirmative Action Plan:
- Intensify recruitment efforts and recruitment sources to attract applicants from under-represented populations as defined by the Hiring Goals set in the Affirmative Action Plan.
- Develop training module to educate search committees and members of UCHC community on the newly added protected class of Gender Identity or Expression.
- Encourage underrepresented groups to participate in the examination process for classified/competitive positions.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to equal employment opportunity and building a vibrant and welcoming multicultural workforce. I look forward to greater accomplishments in achieving our affirmative action goals in the year to come and to becoming a workplace that embraces the unique talents and contributions of a diverse workforce.
