|
Mark T. Bertolini is president
of Aetna Inc., which includes oversight and responsibility for
all businesses and service operations across Aetna's broad range
of health care products. Since May 2007, he was executive vice
president and head of Aetna Business Operations, which was
created by combining what was formerly Aetna National and
Regional Businesses under one management structure. Prior to
taking this position, Bertolini served as head of Aetna Regional
Businesses.
Mr. Bertolini joined Aetna as head of Aetna Specialty Products
in February 2003 and also served as senior vice president of
Aetna Specialty Group, a unit formed in 2004. Mr. Bertolini came
to Aetna from Cigna HealthCare, where he served in several
senior vice president positions. Before joining Cigna, he was
executive vice president of NYLCare Health Plans and chief
executive officer of SelectCare, Inc., a multi-lined managed
care company in the Greater Detroit metropolitan area.
Mr. Bertolini holds a bachelor of science degree in business
administration from Wayne State University and a master of
business administration in finance from Cornell University.

Gerard N. Burrow is president and
chief executive officer at the Sea Research Foundation, Inc.,
Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration, and the David
Paige Smith Professor Emeritus of Internal Medicine and Dean
Emeritus of the School of Medicine at Yale University in New
Haven.
He earned his bachelor’s degree at Brown University in Providence and
his medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine, where he also
completed his residency and a fellowship in endocrinology and
metabolism. Dr. Burrow was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Service
Award from Yale University School of Medicine. He is a Fellow of the
American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the
Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences. He has served in
leadership positions for numerous boards and institutions, including the
International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency; the
Institute of Medicine’s Persian Gulf Committee; the Program on Maternal
and Newborn Health/Safe Motherhood, World Health Organization; American
Thyroid Association; and the Medical School Section, American Medical
Association, among others. Dr. Burrow lives in Hamden, Connecticut.

| Cheryl A.
Chase is executive vice president, principal and
general counsel of Chase Enterprises. She received her
J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in
1978. Ms. Chase's present affiliations include member of
the Board of Directors of Foodshare, Tufts University
Board of Overseers to the School of Nutrition Science
and Policy, the Bushnell Board of Trustees, a Trustee of
the Connecticut Center for Science and Exploration, a
Trustee of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, and a
past director of numerous public and private
institutions. |

Michael J. Cicchetti is the
deputy secretary of the Connecticut Office of Policy and
Management (OPM) and is responsible for providing the governor
with information and analysis to formulate public policy goals,
and assisting state agencies and municipalities in implementing
policy decisions. Prior to his appointment, he was the assistant
director of the Capital City Economic Development Authority,
where he played a critical role in overseeing the operations of
the new Connecticut Convention Center and securing a developer
for the Front Street entertainment district. His appointment as
deputy secretary marked a return to the OPM, where he once
served as the undersecretary for legislative affairs and
undersecretary of the Intergovernmental Policy Division.
Mr. Cicchetti is a graduate of Villanova University and the
Syracuse University School of Law. After law school, he worked
in the Governor’s Office as assistant legal counsel and was
later promoted to deputy legal counsel. A Connecticut native,
Mr. Cicchetti lives in West Hartford.

Sanford Cloud Jr. is the chairman and
chief executive officer of the Cloud Company, LLC. He is the former
president and CEO of the human relations organization National
Conference for Community and Justice, which he represented as a member
of President Carter’s delegation overseeing the first Palestinian
elections. Before coming to the NCCJ, he was a partner at Robinson and
Cole in Hartford, and prior to that he was vice present of Aetna’s
Corporate Public Involvement, and executive director of the Aetna
Foundation. He also helped found National Voices for an Inclusive 21st
Century, a collaboration of national human relations and civil right
organizations.
Mr. Cloud is a former two-term Connecticut State Senator and was the
primary sponsor of legislation creating the State Department of Housing.
He has served on a number of boards, and currently is on the boards of
Northeast Utilities, the Phoenix Companies, Inc., Ironwood Mezzanine
Fund FP, the Joint Center for Political and Economics Studies, the
Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, the Connecticut Health Foundation and
the Hartford Courant Foundation.
A Hartford native, Mr. Cloud is a graduate of Howard University
College of Liberal Arts and Howard University Law School. He earned a
master’s degree in religious studies from the Hartford Seminary. Among
his many awards are an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the
University of Connecticut, an Honorary Doctor of Social Science from
Providence College, and the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Anne
Frank Center USA.

John F. Droney is a founding principal of
the Farmington law firm of Levy & Droney, P.C.
A graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, he received his
J.D. with honors from the University of Connecticut School of
Law in 1973, where he was a member of the Board of Editors of
the University of Connecticut Law Review.
A Vietnam veteran, he has served as a Special State's Attorney
for the Judicial Districts of Hartford and Waterbury and is a
recipient of the University of Connecticut School of Law
Distinguished Alumni Award.
He has lectured at University of Connecticut and Quinnipiac Law
Schools and has served on the Board of Directors of Hartford
Neighborhood Legal Services and the Juvenile Diabetes
Foundation.
He was the chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee
of Connecticut and chairman of the Connecticut Clinton for
President campaign.

J. Robert Galvin is the commissioner of
the Connecticut Department of Public Health and is responsible for the
state’s public health policy and advocacy programs. Commissioner Galvin
was a practicing family physician prior to his appointment. He also
served as a consultant in aviation medicine and diving for the
Connecticut State Police, and as a senior aviation examiner for the
Federal Aviation Administration. He has held a number of long-term
medical consulting, health care and training positions in private and
state organizations.
A retired U.S. Army Brigadier General, he was the commander of the
804th Hospital Center Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, Massachusetts,
and the flight surgeon for the Connecticut Army National Guard. He also
served as commanding officer of the 133rd medical detachment in Vietnam.
He graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, earned his
medical degree from Tufts University in Boston, and more than three
decades later, earned a master in public health degree from the
University of Connecticut.

A. Jon Goldberg is a professor in the
Department of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry and director of the
Center for Biomaterials at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
He has held positions at the University of Connecticut Health Center for
more than 25 years.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Drexel University in
Philadelphia, and master's and doctorate from the University of Michigan
in Ann Arbor, all in metallurgical engineering. He is a member of the
Institute of Materials Science at the University of Connecticut and is
the former president of the Dental Materials Group of the American
Association for Dental Research. Dr. Goldberg lives in West Hartford.

Michael J. Hogan became the 14th
president of the University of Connecticut on September 14,
2007.
Prior to coming to UConn, he was the Executive Vice President
and Provost and F. Wendell Miller Professor of History at The
University of Iowa. Previously he was at The Ohio State
University where he served as chair of the Department of History
from 1993 to 1999, as dean of the College of Humanities from
1999 to 2003, and as executive dean of the Colleges of the Arts
and Sciences from July, 2001, during which time the position of
executive dean evolved into a separate free-standing office with
oversight of five colleges and forty-one departments.
Before joining the faculty at Ohio State in 1986, President
Hogan was a faculty member at Miami University. His nine years
at that institution were preceded by service at Stony Brook
University and at the University of Texas, Austin. Born and
raised in Waterloo, Iowa, he earned his B.A. degree at the
University of Northern Iowa, where he majored in English with
minors in history and classics; his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees were
conferred by The University of Iowa.
A specialist in the history of American diplomacy, President
Hogan is the author or editor of nine books and a host of
scholarly articles and essays.
President Hogan and his wife Virginia have four adult children.

Lenworth M. Jacobs is director of the
Emergency Medical Services/Trauma and Rehabilitation Medicine program at
Hartford Hospital, and professor and chairman of the UConn School of
Medicine Department of Traumatology and Emergency Medicine.
He graduated from the University of West Indies Medical School and
earned his master's in public health at Harvard University School of
Public Health. He serves as vice chairman of the University of
Connecticut Board of Trustees, chairman of its Finance Committee and is
a member of its Health Affairs Committee, as well as other board
committees. He is currently the president of the Connecticut Chapter of
the American College of Surgeons and vice president of the American
Trauma Society Board of Directors. He is the author of numerous books,
chapters and professional papers on injury and trauma. Dr. Jacobs lives
in West Hartford.

Teresa M. Ressel joined
UBS Investment Bank in 2004 as the Chief Operating Officer, UBS
Americas, and was subsequently named CEO, UBS Securities LLC,
for UBS Investment Bank in 2006 which is responsible for UBS'
broker dealer operations. Ms. Ressel manages a broad array of
supervisory control, regulatory, compliance, and logistics
functions covering the United States and Canada as well as
banking activities intersecting the Americas regulatory controls
including bank holding company, branch management and
governance. Prior to UBS, she was confirmed by the United States
Senate as Assistant Secretary for Management and Chief Financial
Officer of the Department of Treasury. Prior to government
service and banking, Ms. Ressel served as an executive at Kaiser
Permanente leading regulatory compliance, change management, and
financial matters related to corporate governance including
government services contracts.
Ms. Ressel graduated from the University of Delaware, College
of Engineering. She completed her M.B.A. from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute.
She also serves as trustee at the Institute for International
Banking (lIB), New York, NY which represents international banks
relative to their U.S. activities, and on the Board of The
Clearing House, the leading private-sector payment
infrastructure for clearing and settling U.S. dollar payments.
Ms. Ressel is actively involved in fostering employee
involvement across a broad range of charitable organizations
including the Red Cross, several community Hospice
organizations, and children's education.

Robert T. Samuels was one of the
founders of ABS Development Company, a shopping centers development
firm. Prior to forming ABS, he served as president and chief operating
officer of First National Supermarkets before selling his interest in
1988.
He attended Adelbert College, Case Western Reserve University, in
Cleveland. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Joslin
Diabetes Center in Boston and the Board of Chancellors of the Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation in New York. He is a past member of the
Board of Directors of the Institute of Living.

Wayne J. Shepperd is the
director of Economic Development for the City of Danbury. He was
appointed to the position in 2005 after a 33-year career at The
News-Times in Danbury. That same year he was nominated by
Governor M. Jodi Rell to the University of Connecticut Board of
Trustees where he continues to serve. Mr. Shepperd has been
heavily involved in community service in the greater Danbury
area for more than 25 years and, among other activities, is
currently the host city chairman of the Nutmeg State Games, a
member of the Housatonic Valley Sports Organizing Committee and
the Boughton Street YMCA Board of Directors. He is a former
chairman of the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce Board of
Directors and a former president of the Connecticut Daily
Newspaper Association.
Mr. Shepperd is a graduate of Assumption College in
Worcester, Massachusetts and served in the U.S. Army Reserves
for six years.

Kathleen D.
Woods is a former Vice President at various
Bank of America institutions (prior to the merger and
acquisition of local and regional New England banks)
focusing primarily on corporate trust and investment
activities in the municipal, healthcare, higher
education and housing arena in New England. As a
business development officer and account relationship
manager, Kathleen has extensive experience in the
administration of trustee services in connection with
debt financings. Kathleen currently serves as
Chairperson of the Farmington Woods Golf Club and is a
member of the Finance Committee of the Farmington Woods
Master Association. She has been a member of Government
Finance Officers Association, the Connecticut Women’s
Council and the board of the Downtown Hartford YMCA.
Kathleen is a graduate of Bryant University with a B.S.
in Business Administration. |
