The fellowship program is designed to maximize learning and develops a board base of clinical and research skills.

The fellow trains clinically at four hospital sites all within 30 minutes of each other.  Each site offers unique clinical experiences.  All areas of GI training are encompassed including viral hepatology, transplant hepatology, motility, and advance procedures of EMR, ERCP and EUS.  Fellows in the first year received basic endoscopy and consultation training.  In the second year, fellows have research and more freedom in their clinical work.  In the third year, fellows are exposed to transplant hepatology and advance endoscopy techniques.  All fellows receive weekly didactic teaching at the university hospital.  Bench research with funded scientists monitoring or clinical research with successful investigators are both available for fellow’s research time.  Opportunities to teach 1st and 2nd year medical students also occur; launching an academic career is encouraged in the program.
