Affiliated Hospitals

The University of Connecticut Health Center is the major scientific and educational base for the clinical and training activities of health professionals in the central Connecticut region. At present, there are 18 residencies and 29 fellowships, many of which are integrated with area hospitals.

The School of Medicine's basic science departments, and preclinical educational conference rooms and laboratories are located at the Health Center. It is also the site of most clinical departments and associated laboratory research space. In addition to 250 full-time clinical faculty at the Health Center there are approximately 100 basic science faculty members, 100 Ph..D. students, and 100 post doctoral scholars and visiting scientists. Additional basic research and clinical activities of the educational system are conducted in several of the affiliated community hospitals. In recent years the School of Medicine has consistently been one of the most rapidly growing institutions in terms of NIH research funding, with over 30 million dollars in annual extramural grant support. The institution has achieved major recognition for its fundamental contributions in areas as diverse as immunology, neurosciences, alcohol research, and bone and connective tissue biology and geriatrics.

   
Hartford Hospital shares an extensive medical campus with the Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Hartford Hospital is an 850-bed acute care, regional, medical center providing care in all medical specialties. The Institute of Living provides comprehensive care and treatment for psychiatric and chemically-dependent patients.
   
Connecticut Children's Medical Center offers the comprehensive scope of pediatric residency training opportunities that only a freestanding hospital exclusively devoted to chidlren can provide. A tertiary care center, CCMC has a strong community care component: our Primary Care Center is an innovative collaboration with an on-site Federally Qualified Health Center. CCMC is a 135-bed, 10 year-old facility, with all pediatric subspecialties under one roof.
   
Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has two campuses located in Hartford and over 600 acute care beds, it anchors a regional healthcare system which includes the Hoffman Heart Institute of Connecticut, the Saint Francis/ Mount Sinai Regional Cancer Center and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Connecticut. An advanced Computerized Physician Order Entry system brings added safety to patient care at Saint Francis.
   
The Lyman Maynard Stowe Library is located close to the Anesthesiology Department and occupies space over three floors. It contains approximately 156,500 volumes, 100,750 bound journals, current subscriptions to 3,561 journal titles, and over 5000 titles in its health-science audiovisual collection. It has been a leader in computer based education. This library has received the prestigious designation as the New England Regional Medical Library, one of only 8 Regional Medical Libraries in the United States.
