Eugene Orientale, M.D.

Dr. Orientale graduated magna cum laude from Brown University in 1983 and earned his MD degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1987. He completed residency training at UCLA in 1990 and then began work at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. There he served as a Predoctoral Director, Family Medicine Clerkship Director and in the advisory role of medical students as an Assistant Dean. He received five prestigious teaching awards in seven years and became the youngest tenured faculty member in Family Medicine. In 1994, he obtained the certificate of added qualification in Geriatrics. He has a special interest and expertise in procedures in family Medicine. In 1997, Dr. Orientale was selected by students and faculty of the University of Tennessee to be the sole faculty member elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He began with UCONN/St. Francis Family Medicine in late 1997. For seven years, he served as director of the "Principles of Clinical Medicine" course at the University of Connecticut Medical School. Since June 2005, he has served as the Program Director, a job that he totally enjoys (on most days). Dr. Orientale precepts junior and senior residents during "Procedures" mornings. His wife, Jean, is a teacher of the hearing impaired, at the American School for the Deaf. He and his wife reside with their twin daughters in Glastonbury. Outside interests include travel, astronomy, woodworking, biking, skiing and watching baseball.

Dr. Heiman graduated from Case
Western Reserve University in Cleveland in 1994 with a B.S. in Management,
summa cum laude. She received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve
University in 1998 and was elected to AOA the same year. She graduated
from the University of Virginia Family Medicine Residency Program in 2001. Dr. Heiman graduated from the Sports Medicine Fellowship program at the University
of Michigan in 2002. Dr, Heiman was on faculty as a lecturer at the
University of Michigan for 1 year prior to joining the department in
2003. Her clinical interests include prevention and sports medicine.
She and her husband enjoy traveling,
photography and gourmet cooking.
