Philosophy
The Asylum Hill Family Practice Center is committed to EDUCATING family practice residents and
medical students, to SERVING the Asylum Hill Community, and to PROMOTING an ideal model of family
practice. We hold the conviction that it is both possible and right to provide the same quality of
care to families across the spectrum of ethnic and socioeconomic status, in a single setting. An
Asylum Hill family physician is a personal physician who cares for individuals and families in the
context of their community over time.
Our Facility
We are very proud of our practice center, which exists specifically
for the education of residents and medical students. The center is located
across the street from the hospital, allowing easy access for residents,
while remaining a distinct private practice office. The clinical side
of the office includes 18 exam rooms, Lab Phlebotomy and a precepting
room with resident work space. Procedure rooms enable colposcopy, flexible
sigmoidoscopy, and exercise treadmill testing. Faculty and administrative
offices, a family consulting room, and a large conference room comprise
the other side of the building. Our Patients
The Asylum Hill Family Practice Center has a long history of providing
health care to our multi-ethnic, inner-city community. Our patient population
includes people who live and work in Hartford and the surrounding towns.
Our patient demographics are equally distributed along ethnic and payor
group classifications which provides a dynamic training environment.
We've come know many of patients well as they have received years of
family care in our office.
Our Partner Groups
Our group practice model promotes continuity and fosters strong doctor-patient relationships. Each
of six partner groups is directed by a faculty family physician, and includes one resident from each
year, plus a nurse, a medical receptionist, and a behavioral science consultant. Partner Group
members care for their own patients, but provide day-time coverage for one another.
