Categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program

Overview: Our mission is to prepare physicians to practice high-quality Internal Medicine and to deliver innovative and effective health care to society, now and in the future. Our goal is to train Generalists who are able to use superior clinical judgment and practice independently. We emphasize evidence-based Medicine, clinical problem-solving, and the scientific method. We have designed a dynamic curriculum and a rich environment that promotes growth and independence and prepares our residents for the next stage of their career; whether that be as a primary care physician, a Hospitalist, or a sub-specialty fellow.

The Categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program has an intern class of 47 and a total program size of approximately 120, including our Osteopathic residents and Chief Medical Residents. Each academic year is divided into thirteen 4-week block rotations that include both inpatient and outpatient experiences. Our program size and flexibility in our scheduling allows the Categorical Internal Medicine Program to meet the individual learning goals and needs of each of our housestaff; allowing them to gain a concentrated experience in their particular areas of interest.

The core curriculum of the Residency Program involves General Inpatient Medicine, Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, selectives, Geriatrics, and continuity clinics.
