Divisions - Gynecologic Oncology

Hartford Hospital

Residents spend two rotations at Hartford Hospital involved in Gynecologic Oncology surgery, clinic and colposcopy. The second year rotation emphasizes pre and post operative care, second assisting in major complicated surgeries, first assisting uncomplicated majors, rounding with the team and covering oncology and colposcopy clinics. The fourth year resident is the chief on service and oversees all aspects of patient care and educating the second year resident. The fourth year is the chief operator in the OR. Often, uncomplicated majors are done with the fourth year as the primary surgeon and the second year as the first assist.

University of Connecticut Health Center

Similar in structure to the two rotations at Hartford Hospital, residents spend one rotation as a fourth year as both the gynecology and gynecologic oncology chiefs. The primary responsibility of the fourth year resident is in first assisting the oncology attendings on all cases. The second year rotation involves covering the ER, a combination of cases in gynecology and gynecologic oncology, and helping in running the combined servie.

New Britain General Hospital

One rotation as a third year is spent at this hospital. The resident is involved in all aspect of a private gyn oncology practice. The resident rounds with the attending, first assists on all cases, and helps with the oncology clinic.
