Divisions - Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

Hartford Hospital

Second year residents rotate in the division of Reproductive Endocrinology for approximately six weeks.  During their rotation they learn basic female and male reproductive physiology and participate in infertility workups for couples including hysterosalpingograms, postcoital testing, endometrial biopsies and semen analyses.  Residents are exposed to patients with reproductive endocrine disorders and they learn the diagnosis and management of these patients.  They assist and perform diagnostic and operative hysteroscopies and laparoscopies.  CO2 laser is routinely used in laparoscopies.  Residents learn the techniques of myomectomies, tubal reconstruction and in vitro fertilization.  They observe and perform intrauterine inseminations and are exposed to the induction of ovulation with Clomiphene Citrate and gonadotropins.  Their rotation includes participation in clinical research. During this rotation residents have the opportunity to rotate though University of Connecticut biweekly and observe ICSI and other procedures that are not routinely done at Hartford Hospital.
