Child Neurology

Pediatric neurology, based at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, provides neurologic services throughout the community. The division is active in undergraduate, medical student and resident education which complements their scholarly pursuits and reflects their service commitment. Division members are actively involved in acute care problems on inpatient and outpatient areas. In addition, they are devoted to meeting the needs of children with chronic diseases such as epilepsy, neuromuscular disease, headache, pain, tics, learning disabilities, cognitive impairment, genetic diseases, degenerative disorders, and the neurologic problems of cancer.

A full range of diagnostic modalities needed for children with neurologic problems supplements evaluations by the pediatric neurology faculty, including: EEG and telemetry, evoked potentials, CT scan, MRI, angiography, and metabolic studies. A newly created inpatient Telemetry Monitoring Unit and outpatient EMG/NCV capabilities have augmented our diagnostic capabilities. The division interacts actively with related services such as neurosurgery, psychiatry, psychology, genetics, ophthalmology, and rehabilitation services. There are active programs and research in neuromuscular diseases, neuro-genetics, and epilepsy. Residents are an integral part of these efforts during their service rotations, and during elective and research efforts.
