clinical divisions
endocrinology
The division has a very active clinical program with approximately 2,000 outpatient visits per year divided among six half-day sessions a week. Over 350 children and adolescents with diabetes are managed with a team of two nurse educators, a social worker, and a nutritionist. The Child and Adolescent Gynecological Endocrinology Clinic (CAGE) is run jointly with the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The division Growth Disorders Clinic, is located at Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Weekly didactic lectures and journal club are given by both residents and faculty during service and electives. The division offers an accredited fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology.
Areas of clinical research include type II diabetes in childhood, osteopenic disorders of childhood, mineral metabolism, and biochemical markers of growth. Laboratory research in the division utilizes techniques of molecular biology to study hormonal regulation of bone collagen synthesis and heritable disorders of collagen genes.
