Josephine M. Hawke, PhD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Hawke’s research interests include factors that influence treatment process and outcomes among high risk populations with comorbid substance use and psychiatric disorders. Her work has included examining studies of HIV seroprevalence and drug dealing among women, long-term treatment outcomes among adolescents in residential substance abuse treatment, risk and protective factors related to drug use among Hispanic youths, and evaluations of drug treatment initiatives for probationers and inmates that were funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). A recurring theme in her work has been the effects of trauma, violence and childhood abuse on drug use and mental health outcomes. Her current focus includes longitudinal clinical research on evidence-based services for high risk adolescents in multiple systems of care.
