Connecticut Delegation Will Visit UK To Learn
About Stem Cells
HARTFORD, Conn. - Three Connecticut officials will visit the
United Kingdom this month to learn about the business of stem cell
research.
Connecticut has committed to providing $100 million for stem cell
research and has already provided nearly $20 million in grants to
UConn, Yale and Wesleyan. Another round of grant applications is
under way.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell says she named a three-person delegation at the
invitation of the British Consulate. She says the United Kingdom is
in the vanguard of European stem cell research.
The delegation will include Department of Economic and Community
Development Commissioner Joan McDonald, University of Connecticut
Stem Cell Institute Director Marc Lalande, and Connecticut United
for Research Excellence President Paul Pescatello.
Delegations from California, Maryland and Texas will also make
the trip. |
