Farmington, Conn. –Celebrate Aging, a new initiative of the UConn
Health Center designed to promote successful aging, is offering several
free programs in November.
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Benign prostatic
hyperplasia is a common problem that affects most men as they age.
Health Center Urologist John Taylor, M.D., will explain the symptoms of
BPH, as well as current medical and surgical treatments, and today’s
best research. Dr. Taylor’s presentation will be held on Tuesday,
November 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Chancellor’s Conference Room at
the Health Center (use main hospital entrance).
The Myths of Aging Revisited and Rewritten: Karen Prestwood,
M.D., a Health Center geriatrician, who is also board certified in
integrative medicine, will lead an interactive program to explore common
myths about aging. “My goal is to facilitate new perspectives about
aging that will lead to enhanced health and well-being,” Dr. Prestwood
said, noting that she will discuss ways to activate the body’s innate
healing abilities. The program will be held on Wednesday, November 3,
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Large ARB Conference Room of the UConn Health
Center (use main hospital entrance).
Oral Health and Aging: During a special presentation at The
Gables in Farmington, Dr. Ruth Goldblatt of the UConn Health Center will

over-the-counter drugs on oral health. The presentation will be on
Friday, November 12, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
