Girls Scouts Welcome Potential New Member

West Hartford troop celebrates Juliette Low’s birthday by reaching out to newborn

FARMINGTON, CONN − To celebrate Girl Scout Founder Juliette Low, several young scouts will deliver a basket of gifts to the first baby girl – and potential future Girl Scout – born at John Dempsey Hospital on the October 31 anniversary of Low’s birth.

Several members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 486 from Smith School in West Hartford will deliver the basket to the nursery at John Dempsey Hospital on Friday at 4 p.m.

“The basket is a service project for our troop,” says Troup Leader Karen Kaeser. “The girls earned the privilege of shopping for a gift to put in the basket by completing a good deed. One girl helped a handicapped woman with her grocery shopping. Another volunteered to take care of a neighbor’s pet.”

Gifts include a T-shirt emblazoned with “Future Girl Scout of America,” along with bibs, baby wipes, a disposable camera and a teething ring. The baby girl born closest to Juliette Low’s October 31 birthday will receive the basket.
