Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day at UConn Health Center

Thursday, April 28, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

FARMINGTON, CONN. – Nearly two hundred children from all across the state, ranging in age from 8 to 15, are expected to take part in this year’s “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” at the University of Connecticut Health Center Thursday, April 28.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for kids to see what their parents do day in and day out,” said Marc Bayer, M. D., medical director of the Connecticut Poison Control Center at UConn Health Center, whose 12-year old daughter attended the event last year. “They have a lot of fun and at the same time learn about career opportunities in the future,” he said.

“There are a lot of different things that go on here which surprises a lot of kids,” said Sandy Kressner, education and development specialist, who is instrumental in planning the day long event. For instance, one of the most popular activities is doing a mock broadcast from the Health Center’s TV studio. Other big hits include tours of the diagnostic imaging area where kids learn about x-rays and MRI scans and pathology, where they look at tissue slides under the microscope. There is also something new being added this year in light of the concerns about childhood obesity – a workout station where they will learn about the importance of exercise and healthy eating.

The event coincides with the national “Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” organized by the MS. Foundation.
