Understanding Cholesterol Disorders

UConn Health Center Discovery Series Discusses Risk Factors and Treatments

FARMINGTON, CONN. – The connection between cholesterol disorders and heart disease and some treatments and lifestyle changes that can prevent or mitigate them will be the topic of a free Discovery Series program on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Keller Auditorium at UConn Health Center.

The program will include an overview of cholesterol disorders and risk factors, including diabetes, by Bruce Liang, M.D., director of the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center. The latest treatments will be discussed by David Silverman, M.D, associate professor in the Department of Medicine. Dietician Linda York, R.D, will discuss tips and guidelines for heart-healthy eating.

“We know that cholesterol disorders are very serious risk factors for heart disease,” says Liang. “We also know that there are many options available today to treat these disorders and to help people get their cholesterol under control.”

The Discovery Series programs are free and registration is required. Please call 800-535-6232 or 860-679-7692.
