Health Center Workshop Aimed at Cultivating Wellness
FARMINGTON, CONN. – A comprehensive approach to pain and stress
management is the aim of a three-day workshop at the University of
Connecticut Health Center, July 15 to 17.
The classes will provide basic understanding of Ayurveda, the world’s
oldest comprehensive health care system, founded in India more than
6,000 years ago. A psycho-neuro-immunology of stress and its various
outcomes will be analyzed. Interventions like spirituality, sound,
color, geometrical designs, meditation breathing and hand gestures will
be introduced as tools for stress management and relaxation. Conditions
like obesity, insomnia, depression, pain, fibromyalgia and cancer may
benefit from these interventions.
Internationally renowned Ayurvedic physician Dr. Vasant Lad and Dr.
Amala Guha, Assistant Professor of Medicine and the program director of
Complementary and Alternative Supportive Care at the UConn School of
Medicine, will lead the workshop.
The courses are appropriate for physicians and nurses, psychologists,
scientists and researchers, medical students, holistic practitioners and
the general public is invited, too. Continuing medical education credits
are available.
Registration fees are $400 for members and $500 for non-members. One
day registration is $200. Call 860-561-4857 for more information.
The workshop is sponsored by the University of Connecticut Office of
Continuing Education and the School of Medicine, and Complementary and
Alternative Supportive Care in collaboration with the International
