UConn Medical Students Among the Best in the Country
Match Day Results Announced
FARMINGTON, CONN. – Match Day was an outstanding success for the
students at the UConn Medical School as 98.5 percent of those seeking
residencies were matched with a program. The national match this year
was 93.7 percent.
Today, at 12:05 p.m., 71 medical students, along with their peers
across the country in the Class of 2005, learned the location of their
medical residency program.
Primary care residency programs accounted for 51 percent of the
students, while 49 percent were in other specialties, from
anesthesiology to urology. Many will stay in Connecticut to complete
their residencies, while others will be attending programs at
institutions across the country, such as Johns Hopkins,
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical
Center, Columbia Presbyterian, Einstein/Jacobi Medical Center, Boston
University Medical Center, George Washington University, Yale University
and Harvard University, among others.
“Over the years, our students match to the most prestigious
residencies in the country. They consistently earn top rankings,” said
Anthony Ardolino, M.D., associate dean for Medical Student Affairs. “It
reinforces our confidence in the outstanding medical education we offer
here at UConn. Our students really shine.”
This year, more than 14,700 U.S. medical school seniors applied for
residency positions through the National Resident Matching Program. The
program is conducted annually and matches the preference of applicants
with the preference of residency program to fill the available training
positions at teaching hospital nationwide.
