Pandemic Without Panic – Flu Watch 2006: Millions of people
get the flu each year. For otherwise healthy individuals, it means
temporarily feeling achy and miserable. But according to the National
Institutes of Health, flu can be life-threatening in older adults and in
people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, as well as heart, lung,
or kidney diseases. Janet McElhaney, M.D., associate professor of
medicine, UConn Center on Aging and the Center for Immunotherapy, will
discuss the different types of flu that are prevalent today, how the
immune system is boosted by the flu vaccine, and how you can participate
in a flu study and receive your vaccine free. The talk will be held on
Thursday, September 28, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Henry Low Learning
Center at the UConn Health Center.
