Artist Inspired by the Old Masters
Thirty Years and Two Continents Later
WHO: Joseph Miranda
WHAT: “Old Europe”
WHERE: Hospital and Mezzanine Lobbies, UConn Health
Center, 263 Farmington Ave., Farmington
WHEN: April 24 through June 13, daily 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
About the artist:
While stationed with the United States Air Force in Germany, Joseph
Miranda studied with two local artists, learning the styles of the
old masters, which he says are the basis of his style and technique.
The use of washes and glazes in oil can be seen in many of his
works. The subject matter, color and the brushwork style suggest Old
Europe.
Returning to the U.S. he put aside painting to raise a family and
pursue a military career. Now living in Windsor, he has retired from
his second career in computer software and returned to painting. He
says the exhibit “Old Europe” is based on the influences encountered
while he was living abroad.
While in the military, he entered a number of art shows within
the Air Force community and was awarded many first and second place
honors. He also taught art classes for adults and children at
Langley AFB.
The University of Connecticut Health Center’s collection of fine
arts serves to enhance the environment and promote the sense of a
caring community for patients, visitors, staff and students. Art is
selected, acquired and exhibited by the UCHC Art Advisory Committee.
