Revolutionizing the Workplace: Take Our
Daughters & Sons to Work® Day at UConn Health Center
FARMINGTON, CONN. – Nearly two hundred children from across the
state, ranging in age from 8 to 15, are expected to take part in
this year’s “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” at the
University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington on
Thursday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The UConn Health Center is joining many other state and national
organizations in support of the special event. “Children are our
most precious resources,” said Rosie Rodríguez, Health Center
education and development specialist, who was instrumental in
planning the day. “They will grow up to become the business and
community leaders, doctors, scientists, educators and artists of
tomorrow. Through this program, we can show girls and boys work
opportunities they may not know exist,” added Rodriguez.
The program will include a number of hands-on activities
including a workshop where the children will learn simple and safe
physical examination techniques using reflex hammers and tuning
forks. Some of the children will see John Dempsey Hospital from a
patient’s perspective, starting in the emergency room and ending
with discharge. Since this year’s theme is “revolutionizing the
workplace,” an art project will focus on incorporating the
environment to the workplace. The children will do a planting
project with donated plants and pots from the Floriculture
Department at UConn in Storrs.
The day consists of:
- Welcome Breakfast
- Health Center Tour
- Children’s Information Fair
- Group Art Project
- Afternoon Ice Cream Social
The University of Connecticut Health Center includes the schools of
medicine and dental medicine, the UConn Medical Group, University
