Interventional Cardiologist Joins UConn Health
Center
FARMINGTON, CONN. – Kanwar Singh, M.D., is now seeing
patients in the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center at the
University of Connecticut Health Center.
Singh specializes in general and interventional cardiology,
including coronary angioplasty and stenting, as well as the
treatment of peripheral arterial disease. He also reads vascular
ultrasound studies.
“Arterial diseases in the arms, legs, kidneys or brain are not
only their own problems, they can be a major indicator of heart
disease,” Singh says. “Narrowing of the arteries represents a
systemic disease process, one that requires careful and sometimes
immediate attention. Thankfully, peripheral disease is treatable;
treatment comes with a major improvement in quality of life, such as
avoidance of difficult bypass operations and amputation. Treatment
of related coronary disease can improve the length and quality of
one's life.”
Singh comes to the UConn Health Center from the Duke University
Medical Center in Durham, N.C., where he saw patients and was an
instructor of medicine, and where he completed fellowships in
general cardiology and interventional coronary and peripheral artery
disease. He did his residency work at Brigham and Women’s Hospital
in Boston, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, after
attending McGill University Faculty of Medicine in Montreal. He has
a bachelor of science in biology from Cornell University in Ithaca,
N.Y.
“Dr. Singh is an expert in vascular medicine,” says Bruce Liang,
M.D., director of the Calhoun Cardiology Center. “He trained in some
of the best cardiology centers in the world, and has expertise in
the latest approaches to and methods of treating patients with
vascular diseases, including those with peripheral arterial disease.
Dr. Singh brings additional important expertise to our center of
excellence in heart and vascular diseases.”
In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Singh is an assistant
professor of medicine in the UConn School of Medicine Division of
Cardiology.
