New Chief of Radiology at UConn Health Center
FARMINGTON, CONN. – Douglas W. Fellows, M.D., F.A.C.R., is
now chair of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Therapeutics
at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
Dr. Fellows most recently was professor and vice chair of
radiology at UMass Memorial Healthcare in Worcester, Mass., and
radiology residency program director at UMass Medical School. He
served in the U.S. Army for three decades, during which he served as
the radiology consultant to the surgeon general. In that role, Dr.
Fellows oversaw radiology departments in more than 35 hospitals
throughout the United States, Europe and South Korea.
“I feel like I’m coming home,” Dr. Fellows says. “My father was a
professor at the University of Connecticut for about 40 years and I
grew up in Storrs. So for me this is like coming full-circle. UConn
has given a lot to me, and here’s an opportunity for me to give
back.”
The Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Therapeutics at the
UConn Health Center offers sophisticated imaging technologies,
including digital and conventional mammography, full field strength
and open MRI, CT and combined PET/CT scan, bone density scan,
ultrasound, and standard X-rays, as well as nuclear imaging and
radiation therapy.
Dr. Fellows has a bachelor’s of science in physical therapy from
UConn, a master’s in anatomy from the Ohio State University, and is
a graduate of Boston University Medical School. He completed an
internship and diagnostic radiology residency at the Tripler Army
Medical Center in Hawaii, and a fellowship in neuroradiology at the
Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore, Md. He is board
certified in diagnostic radiology and neuroradiology.
In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Fellows will instruct
students at the UConn School of Medicine, with a teaching focus on
neuroimaging.
