Show
Exhibit: "Meet Mixus – Mixed Media Artists"
Where: Main and Mezzanine lobbies, UConn Health Center,
263 Farmington Ave., Farmington
When: November 29 - February 13, daily 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Mixus: A group of local mixed media and collage artists
who meet regularly to share ideas, discuss each others' artwork,
techniques, and materials, and share art-related information. The
group began meeting six years ago.
The Mixus Artists:
Judy Cantwell, a gel transfer mixed-media artist, has won
several local awards for her outstanding work. Her engaging and
nostalgic pieces capture local points of interest, people and
history. Cantwell is a Canton resident and an active board
member of the Canton Artists' Guild.
Vi Joshua, for many years a successful well traveled fiber
artist, currently enjoys many forms of mixed media especially
assemblage and encaustic abstracts. He lives in Simsbury.
Award-winning collage artist Hannah Libman, creates
vibrant landscapes, abstracts and whimsical portraits using a
variety of marbleized, painted and printed papers. Libman, a
resident of Bloomfield, is on faculty of the West Hartford
Art League.
Bunny Millan of Simsbury has a very painterly
approach to her mixed media work. Landscapes, floras and portraits
are done with vibrant colors and textures.
Jill Henderson Pasanen incorporates her experiences as a
painter and a dancer with her successful use of painted papers,
markings, ink, and printing into abstracts, flora collages, and
landscapes. Her works capture the energy and rhythm of a dancer in
lively colorful abstracts. She lives in Burlington.
Relatively new Simsbury artist Thelma Pierce,
experiments with various methods of collage. She is currently
working with paper – purchased, scavenged, and personally painted –
creating works that range from realistic to abstract with a
minimalist approach.
Alberta L. Richetelle uses painted papers and acrylics in
her abstract collages to suggest nature, the seasons and the rhythms
of life. She is currently experimenting with the human form and
portraits. She lives in New Britain.
Hartford resident Carolyn Tertes creates powerful
mixed-media collages using a limited palette and multiple layers.
She is interested in texture and the appearance of depth in her work
and uses new techniques to present faux encaustic, the look of a wax
surface.
Sue Williams of Avon has a colorful approach to
collage using hand decorated papers in floral and abstract works.
Her work has a unique textual quality and often explores women's
themes .
C. Dianne Zweig of Avon is influenced by
mid-century designs, retro-motifs, vintage bark cloth and the art of
the doodle. In addition to her artwork, she is the author of "Hot
Kitchen and Home Collectibles, 30s, 40s, 50s."
