Dr. Phillip P. Smith Joins UConn Health Center
FARMINGTON, CONN. – Phillip P. Smith, M.D., an expert in
the diagnosis and treatment of problems with urination, urinary
incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, is now seeing patients at
the University of Connecticut Health Center.
Dr. Smith joins the Health Center from Baylor College of Medicine
where he completed fellowship-training in the urologic
subspecialties of urogynecology, voiding dysfunction and female
urology. He provides today’s most sophisticated diagnostic and
treatment approaches for problems related to the bladder, urinary
incontinence, and pelvic prolapse.
“Voiding and bladder control problems are very common, especially
as people age. There are many approaches to correct these problems
and to help enhance each patient’s quality of life,” Dr. Smith said.
“However, the best outcomes are the result of careful diagnostic
study, so that treatment can be tailored to the individual patient.
It is a principle of my practice to identify and correct, as much as
possible, the underlying causes of these problems,” he added.
“We are very fortunate to have someone with Dr. Smith’s advanced
surgical training to correct issues such as pelvic prolapse,
overactive bladders and more,” added Peter Albertsen, M.D., chief of
the Health Center’s Division of Urology.
An Ohio native, Dr. Smith is a graduate of Kenyon College and the
University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he also
completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. After several
years in private practice, he spent three years at Baylor College of
Medicine, completing his fellowship training. His research interests
include the biomechanics and neurophysiology of the lower urinary
tract and pelvic floor.
