About the artists:
A graduate of Bennington College in Vermont, Tory Cowles is a
well-known artist in the Washington, D.C. area. She is represented
there at the Touchstone Gallery and at the Torpedo Factory, an
artists’ collective in Alexandria, Va.
Most recently she exhibited at the Touchstone, the National
Women’s Democratic Club Art Show in Washington, and at the Trading
Spaces Art Show/Artspace in Raleigh, N.C. She has also exhibited at
venues in Virginia, Maryland and Vermont. Her work will be included
in a year-long traveling show that begins in September titled “From
Here 2 There.” The exhibit will visit Maryland, Virginia,
Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Nevada.
Admitting to a penchant for bright colors, Cowles paints and
repaints her canvases and builds layers. She says, “When a painting
works, it comes alive with its own personality.”
Melissa Post began using a camera to create images more than 25
years ago. Her current body of work, and the subject of this
exhibit, explores the people, places and things in her daily life.
She creates her unique photos by using a toy camera with a
magnifying glass taped to the lens for a close up view.
Post attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City and has
exhibited at numerous shows from coast to coast. Most recently, she
participated in events at the Artwell Gallery in Torrington, the
Celebrate East Lyme Street Festival, the West Hartford Art League,
and the Dragonfly Gallery of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.
Before moving to Connecticut, she lived in the San Francisco Bay
area and exhibited at various venues in Oakland, Berkeley, Marin,
and San Francisco.
