Keeping Diabetes at Bay
Discovery Series Free Lecture on March 11
FARMINGTON, CONN. – Almost everyone knows someone who has
diabetes. Nearly 21 million people in the United States—seven
percent of the population—suffer from the serious, lifelong
condition. Controlling diabetes through healthy lifestyle habits
will be discussed during a free lecture on Tuesday, March 11 from 7
to 9 p.m. at the University of Connecticut Health Center’s Keller
Auditorium.
Speakers for the Discovery Series “Keeping Diabetes at Bay” will
be members of the UConn Health Center Diabetes Education Program:
Deborah Downes, registered dietitian; Jean Kostak, diabetes
educator; Dr. Carl Malchoff, endocrinologist; and Richard Duclos,
executive chef. The topics that will be discussed include:
- Pre-diabetes and whether you are at risk
- Tips for healthy and tasty meals featuring a cooking
demonstration
- The latest information on prevention, treatment and management
The Discovery Series is free and will be held on Tuesday, March
11 (Snow date: March 13), at 7 p.m. in the Health Center’s Keller
