UConn Health Center Adds Infectious Disease Physician
FARMINGTON, CONN. – Cristina Mondragon, M.D., an infectious disease specialist, is now seeing patients at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
In addition to providing general infectious disease consultations, Mondragon specializes in treatment of HIV, skin and soft tissue infections, infections related to surgical procedures,
and pre- and post-travel counseling.
“Our primary aim is to provide good care, educate in the process, and have our patients be happy with our clinical services,” Mondragon says. “We do a lot of patient teaching, educating
and reassuring. A lot of what I do in outpatient is clarifying misconceptions.”
After four years of private practice in Charleston, S.C., Mondragon returned to the UConn Health Center, where she previously had completed an internship and residency in internal
medicine and a fellowship in infectious diseases. Her doctorate in medicine is from the University of Philippines College of Medicine.
“We are delighted that Dr. Mondragon is joining us on the faculty at the UConn Health Center,” says Professor Emeritus John Shanley, M.D., who’s been with the Infectious Diseases
Division for 25 years and runs the infectious disease fellowship program. “She was one of the most outstanding fellows I had the pleasure to have in the training program and her return is
a significant coup for the Health Center and the university. She is a very compassionate, mature physician and I am proud to have her return.”
Mondragon, 35, lives in Hartford.
