Artists Exhibit at Celeste LeWitt Gallery
What: “In the Moment” paintings by Rita Bond and
“Pubs/Structures/Large and Small” paintings by Arthur Bredefeld
Where: Celeste LeWitt Gallery, UConn Health Center, 263 Farmington Ave., Farmington
When: March 13 through June 11, daily 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
About the artists:
Longtime Simsbury resident Rita Bond turned to art studies to
refine her skill as a landscape designer and found a new way to
express her creativity. “While studying landscape design at the New
York Botanical Garden, I learned that no two people interpret or
design the same space in the same way,” states Bond. “And so it is
with art. For me, the artist’s work is a creative interplay of
imagination and individual sight.”
Bond studied drawing at the Boston Museum of Fine arts and much
later continued her art studies at the West Hartford Art League and
at the Great River Art Association in Vermont.
She has displayed her artwork at Connecticut galleries,
businesses, libraries, schools, and restaurants and has participated
in a number of juried shows, including the West Hartford Art
League/West Hartford Center Business Association’s “Artwalk,” and
West Hartford Art League and the Kent Art Association shows, among
others. Her paintings are in collections throughout the state and in
California, Maryland, Florida and Great Britain.
Bond, who holds a master’s degree from Teachers College/Columbia
University, also served as a visiting artist in the Simsbury school
system. She is a member of the Connecticut Pastel Society, the West
Hartford Art League and the Avon Art Association.
Arthur Bredefeld has been drawing and painting for many
years and, now retired, is devoting more time to his craft. A former
engineer, his keen eye for details, appreciation for fine
workmanship in older buildings, and his deft use of oils and
acrylics have garnered him praise and acceptance from judges,
colleagues and patrons.
He has displayed his work at numerous art shows throughout
Connecticut, including the Talcott Mountain Music Festival/City and
Country Canvasses Show in Simsbury; juried shows at the Southington
and New Britain Art Leagues and at The Gables of Farmington; and
exhibits at the Harwinton, Simsbury, Farmington and Bristol
libraries.
He has received awards from the Southington and New Britain Art
Leagues, and, as a student of the Farmington River School of Art, he
won the Holbein Award for “Best Use of Acrylics.”
In addition to his works that highlight historical and other
buildings of interest, he also enjoys painting seascapes, landscapes
and still-life. Before moving to Bristol, Bredefeld lived near the
Madison shore.
