Celebrate Women Programs: April 2008
FARMINGTON, CONN. – Celebrate Women, the free women’s health
membership program of the University of Connecticut Health Center,
provides valuable health and wellness information to the community.
A variety of programs are being offered in April.
Find Information You Can Trust at the Library: A library
is a valuable resource that many people overlook. This program will
focus on how to do online research at the UConn Health Center’s
medical library. You will also enjoy a short tour of the library to
learn how to physically use the resources available. The program
will take place on Wednesday, April 2, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Lyman Stowe
Library, Classroom 1 at the UConn Health Center, 263 Farmington
Ave., Farmington.
Women's Cancer Prevention and Genetic Testing: One of the
best ways for women to prevent or reduce the risk of breast,
ovarian, and other cancers is to understand their risk factors. The
talk by Jennifer Stroop, certified genetics counselor, will focus on
prevention strategies, the role of genetic testing, and when genetic
counseling is recommended. Stroop will also discuss five myths about
genetic testing. The talk will take place on Monday, April 7, noon
to 1 p.m. in the Henry Low Learning Center, UConn Health Center, 263
Farmington Ave., Farmington. The lecture can be viewed live at
www.celebrate.uchc.edu/webcast, where you can also access
archived webcasts.
Plan Ahead to Assure Healthy Travel: Cristina Mondragon,
M.D., assistant professor of infectious diseases, will discuss the
value of adequate pre-travel counseling and advice for immunization
as an integral part of planning an exotic getaway. Learn why a visit
to the International Traveler’s Medical Service at UConn Health
Center can greatly minimize your health risks when traveling abroad.
The discussion will be held Monday, April 23, 6 to 7 p.m. in the
Henry Low Learning Center, UConn Health Center, 263 Farmington Ave.,
