March 20 Is Match Day for Nation’s Medical Students
Waiting is over as students receive appointments to residency programs
FARMINGTON, Conn. – At exactly 12:05 p.m., Thursday,
March 20, medical students at the UConn Health Center and across
the country will rip open envelopes that hold the key to their
futures. It’s Match Day, a rite of passage for medical
students.
Each year the National Residency Match Program matches thousands
of medical school graduates to residency programs. At the University
of Connecticut School of Medicine, 74 students in the Class of 2008
will learn where they will serve their residencies and begin the
in-depth training in their chosen medical specialty.
Each year, Match Day proves to be a tense, emotional and
thrilling event for the graduates, their families and UConn faculty.
Students will assemble at noon in the Patterson Auditorium,
adjacent to the Academic Entrance, UConn Health Center, 263
Farmington Avenue to learn what lies ahead.
Note to print and television reporters and photo/video editors:
Interview, photo and video opportunities are plentiful,
high-spirited and emotional.
Media is invited to stay for lunch.
