Media Relations

Our communications officers work with news professionals and organizations in the region and around the world to provide prompt and up-to-date information about the Health Center’s schools of medicine, dental medicine and biosciences research, John Dempsey Hospital, the UConn Medical Group and University Dentists. They can arrange for one of our experts to answer questions or provide background information for a story. They also provide tours of the Health Center to news professionals. Our communications officers are here weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (and often later), Eastern Time. During non-business hours, call 860-679-2000 to reach the communications officer on call.

Clinical Marketing

Our clinical marketing program is designed to heighten awareness of the Health Center and its excellent patient care throughout our primary service area. Marketing communication officers deliver our message using a variety of tools. Advertising highlights our story in a variety of media from magazines and newspapers to radio and billboards along major highways. Our Discovery Series draws people of all ages into the Health Center for regular evening lectures by our faculty and physicians on the latest health care topics and our clinical services. More than 75,000 households in our service area receive UConn House Call, a newsletter with information on health and wellness topics as well as an introduction to our new physicians and our latest services.

Web Services

The Office of Communications is responsible for a variety of services relating to the UConn Health Center’s web site.

Primary Activities Include:

• Development and maintenance of the home page and top-level pages.
• Development and maintenance of the Patient Care web site.
• Ensuring compliance with the UConn Health Center web policy.
• Providing guidance and assistance to departments and schools in the creation of their web pages.

Celebrate Health

Mission Statement

It is the mission of Celebrate Health at the University of Connecticut Health Center, to create and maintain free membership programs that provide health and wellness information valued by targeted audiences in the community. The success of these programs will build awareness and utilization of the Health Center’s clinical services.

Programs

Celebrate Women offers innovative seminars, screenings, quarterly newsletters, monthly e-mail newsletters, discounts at area merchants, and opportunities for women to become informed and engaged in their health care and that of their families. The program is open to women of all ages and has more than 10,000 members from across the region.

Celebrate Girls is geared to young women between 10 and 18 years old. An interactive web site offers health information specific to young women. The “Just Us Girls” series of events and seminars are open to girls, and the women in their lives, to learn about health issues, current trends and fiscal responsibility.
