Planning for Pregnancy Classes
Breast-feeding Class
A class offered on breast-feeding for expectant parents led by a certified lactation consultant. Discussion topics include the benefits of breast-feeding, how to get started, and how the rest of the family can help the breast-feeding mother as well as how to continue breast-feeding and working. Classes are primarily held on the first Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. Located in the Onyiuke Dining Room. Class size is limited to 10 couples. Fee is $20.00.

Childbirth Preparation Class
The class will cover anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and labor, emotions of pregnancy, nutrition, fetal growth and development, comfort measures for labor, working with unexpected events in labor, cesarean delivery as well as practice of relaxation and breathing techniques for labor. Remember to bring two pillows and wear comfortable clothing. Class is held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Located in the Onyiuke Dining Room. Class size is limited to 8 couples. A light snack is provided. Fee is $100.00.

Hospital Maternity Tours
Tours are held on Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. A representative will meet you in the hospital lobby and guide you through labor and delivery, postpartum, and the nursery. Children and grandparents are welcome to attend tours. Class size is limited to 7 families. This tour is free.

Infant Care Class
A two hour class about caring for your baby is offered for expectant parents and caregivers. Discussion topics include appearance and behavior of the newborn, car seat and home safety issues, well child care and the importance of immunizations, choosing a pediatrician as well as practice with diapering and bathing a newborn. Classes are primarily held on the second Monday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m. Located in the Onyiuke Dining Room. Class size is limited to 10 couples. Fee is $20.00.

Prenatal Parenting
Becoming a new parent is exciting and challenging. Together we’ll learn what to expect – from welcoming your baby to first steps. Expecting moms and dads are invited to a supportive and educational group program on preparing for the transition from pregnancy to parenthood. This class does not replace hospital childbirth preparation classes.
Topics include: pregnancy and parenting adjustment, parent-child attachment, infant crying, infant feeding, infant sleeping, establishing routines, and postpartum planning/community resources. Parents receive free materials. Program is free and dinner is included.
