Diversity Training Message from Dr. Deckers
As part of our Affirmative Action Plan, the Health Center has
committed to complete mandatory diversity awareness training for all
employees by June 30, 2005. Although many of our staff completed the
training over the past three years, there are still a number of
employees who have not yet completed this training. It is essential that
we meet the commitment made in our affirmative action plan to complete
all outstanding training by June 30, 2005. We will need the full
cooperation of every Health Center employee if we are to meet this
target date for completion and meet Health Center’s affirmative action
compliance obligation.
In order to achieve this goal, the Department of Human Resources
working with the Office of Diversity Programs will be implementing a
stepped-up training schedule for diversity awareness training. Over the
next 4 ½ months, numerous training sessions will run in either the
Administrative Services Building (ASB) Conference rooms A&B, the Onyiuke
Dining Room located in the main building or the first floor conference
room in the Academic Research Building. The training session will last
for 3 ½ hours and include a break. A list of scheduled training sessions
can be accessed through the HR website at
http://employ.uchc.edu/training/diversity_training.html.
Each employee that has not completed this training, which has been
offered over the past three years, is required to attend a session. If
you have any questions regarding you or your staff’s attendance at the
earlier sessions please contact Human Resources at 860-679-7577.
To schedule staff members or yourself for training, please select a
date and time from the list of available times and either e-mail your
choice to hrregistration@uchc.edu, or fax your registration to HR at 860-679-1051. All registrations must be in writing. Class size is limited to
25 persons and will be on a first come, first serve basis. Upon receipt
you will receive confirmation of your registration. If a selected
session is filled you will be contacted and an alternate date will be
assigned.
Although law mandates the training, this is an important initiative
that fits into the University of Connecticut Health Center’s goals of an
inclusive environment whereby every member of the Health Center
community feels valued and respected.
If you have any questions about the Diversity Training, please
contact Ann Smith at 860-679-2523.
