Volunteering

Adult Volunteer Program

We are not accepting applications at this time. Please check back in July.

Thank you for inquiring about volunteer opportunities at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Interested volunteers should be willing to commit to a minimum of 100 hours per six months. All prospective volunteers should also be advised that due to ever-changing regulations regarding safety and security in a hospital setting, becoming a volunteer requires increased safety and security reviewing. Obtaining the necessary forms from the UConn Health Center website will ensure that you get the most recent versions. Out-of-date forms will not be processed.

Please read the following information carefully because the process has been changed.

Due to regulatory requirements all volunteers must:

1. Complete an Application Form and Background Information Sheet.

2. Receive feedback as to whether the prospective volunteer cleared the background screening before continuing through the process of becoming a volunteer.

3. Interview with a member of the Volunteer Services Department.

4. Complete the Immunization Documentation/Screening Form which requires blood work to verify your immunities. Please be advised that this blood work is at the expense of the volunteer.

5. Make an appointment for and clear a health screening and two TB tests at UConn Employee Health.

6. Attend an orientation program which you will be invited to attend after you pass your health screening.

7. Obtain a badge from Public Safety after completion of all other requirements.

Please return your completed Application and Background Information Form to:

Department of Volunteer Services
UConn Health Center
263 Farmington Avenue
Farmington, CT 06030-2825

Once Volunteer Services receives your application, Public Safety will do a background check. This process may take up to two weeks. Soon after, you will be contacted for an interview.

During the interview, volunteer opportunities, the health screening process, and the orientation will be discussed. Before your health screening, you must have your blood work done. After you clear your health screening, you will be invited to a Volunteer Services orientation.

After Volunteer Services orientation, you must get an identification badge from Public safety. You must wear your badge whenever you are in the hospital. The hours for Public Safety are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Public Safety is closed 12 to 1 p.m. for lunch.

If you have any questions, please call 860-679-2381 or 860-679-4395 and leave a message. Every attempt will be made to return your call by the next business day. Thank you for considering the UConn Health Center. Your willingness to share your skills, your efforts and your valuable time is greatly appreciated by staff and patients at the UConn Health Center.
